Eight weeks of learning, challenging conversations, and new perspectives. Working closely with James Clarkson pushed me to reflect deeply on my coaching, leadership, and the way I approach the game. An experience I’m truly grateful for — and one that will stay with me moving forward.

For the last eight weeks, I participated in a program of intense Coaching & Leadership Mentorship conducted by James Clarkson — And what an influence it's been.
Every single session came with its share of deep, difficult and stimulating conversations. We covered an array of topics as they pertain to football and coaching broadly:
Leadership
Communication
Game Model Design
Principles of Play and Key Moments (build-up, transitions, defensive organization)
Game Week and Matchday planning
IDP
...
What also made the experience so worthwhile, was that there was a balance of high performance football insights correlated to my own environment.
With the professional game we didn’t take it in isolation — we actually examined and considered the youth team I currently coach, linking theory into practice when on-field coaching decisions are often made, for example.
It forced me to think clearer, coach intentionally and reflect deeply how I design training sessions, lead players and construct team environments.
I was able to gain new perspectives over the course of this journey, for which I am extremely grateful.
I am sure these insights will be influential in my coaching career moving forward, in additionally providing me greater understanding of the game and training processes and team culture.
Special thanks to James Clarkson, for all the advice, challenges, and conversations these last few weeks.
This had carried straight to the pitch, but this is just the beginning. As a whole, this methodological approach facilitates a systematic, transparent, and comparative analysis of the role played by coaching communication in youth sports. The study also seeks to provide evidence-based recommendations for practice by integrating findings from different sport contexts and situational demands in order to help inform communication strategies within coaching practice.
